On September 4th, co-founder of DeepMind, Mustafa Suleyman, and current CEO of Inflection AI revealed during an interview that GPT-5 is currently being secretly trained. According to them, within the next 18 months, Inflection AI’s model will be 100 times larger than the current state-of-the-art models, and within the next three years, it will be a staggering 1000 times larger.
However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously denied that they were training GPT-5. Some insiders suggest that OpenAI may have given it a new name, hence the denial. This is similar to the launch of Code Interpreter, where many people felt that its capabilities were beyond GPT-4, and it should be labeled as GPT-4.5 instead.
