Maria Ressa: Philippines Nobel winner acquitted in last tax evasion case

The acquittal of Nobel laureate Maria Ressa, accused of fraud on the final count of a tax evasion case in the Philippines, was hailed as a victory for press freedom.

“You have to have faith,” the smiling reporter told reporters gathered at the door of the Manila courthouse.

All five cases occurred during the term of former President Rodrigo Duterte. Rappler, the news website Ms. Reza runs, published a series of reports critical of its bloody law enforcement war.
